ACTION IN SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO

On March 3, 2009 the City Council of San Juan Capistrano voted to prohibit overnight parking on Camino Capistrano between La Zanja and Oso Road. This prohibition negatively affects hundreds of families. Residents are forced to park in other areas, so the parking problem just moves, but is not solved. As well, residents worry that a wide-open road means faster speeds, thus putting their kids in harm's way. Finally, some workers arrive home at a late hour and are concerned about their safety walking from their car to their residence. For all these reasons and more, on Wednesday, April 22, grassroots leaders from CREER and OCCCO, along with residents negatively affected by the parking prohibition, gathered together at the Mission Basilica in order to find a constructive solution to the problem of overcrowding.
